Now, this semester I'm in Writing 300, and it's going to be a great class for me, teaching me to write all kinds of essays, and do it concisely. Since I am NOT a concise writer. I am a rambler. So hopefully this will help me with my vet. school applications, since I did rather poorly on the application essay last year for Calgary. Was limited to 800 words and an hour to write. Had 800 words in less than half the time, and then spent the rest of the time trying to change it so I could actually answer all the topic pieces they'd given us, which I did not accomplish. So I'll be writing this semester. Yay. And I will likely always have more to say than I can say in the papers that are due. So I think I'm going to post my assignments up here, and then add to them so I can say all that I wanted to say in the first place. And if I manage to get on here and do some other writing that will be awesome too. I am just so glad I actually remembered my sign in information.
So, Assignment #1 - Write about your Favourite Vacation Spot, in a Subjective, Descriptive Essay, in 150-200 words MAX. (I of course have 200 words exactly, coming in just under the wire for this assignment)..

A Polynesian Paradise
For our
honeymoon we went to French Polynesia and it was, and still is, my only
vacation not in Canada or the
U.S.A. Stepping off the plane after the
long, dry flight we were caressed by the moist, sweet air carrying notes of
exotic flowers, salty moisture, and an abundance of greenery. Vibrant colours abounded, especially the
gem-like tones of the waters, emerald greens, aquamarine teals, sapphire blues,
sparkling and inlaid with shots of garnet, ruby red, opal, and more, as fish
darted around within the crystalline waters.
It was my first, and again only, time snorkelling, enjoying the warm,
comforting, quiet lagoon, feeling fresh rain fall on my already wet back. Watching fish among the reefs, and a ray,
grey and gliding smoothly through his native environment, making me feel uncoordinated
and awkward. There I got to live my dream
of swimming with dolphins and felt tough, smooth skin, kissed a salty nose, and
observed precise movements beneath the water.
Waves crashed in the distance, against the motu, so different from the
west coast I was familiar with. The
ocean in the lagoon was almost like a lake, but salty. So much more to say, but that will do.
So that is Assignment #1 and I'm going to add to it, to say everything else I wish I could have said in this but couldn't because of the word limit, sometime soon, but I need to go to bed right now, since I'm trying this semester to get up around 5-5:30am every day, and make it to all my classes. Happy New Year everyone!!
