So.... suddenly, on Tuesday, we got a call in the morning from Cheri about a bigger place, so we went and saw it last night. Our place now is way too crowded for us, and that's with an almost $90/month storage locker being all full too. It's a condo in a quieter location in Royal Oak, right near Commonwealth Place Pool and Rec. Center, and overlooking the 6th hole of the Royal Oak golfcourse. It's 1185 sq ft. (the place we're in is 710sq ft including balcony)
It's more like a town house, since it's two levels... so it feels like a house, rather than a box. New carpet, new fixtures (all on our style), new paint on walls (on in our colours)... the weakest link is the kitchen, as it's even slightly smaller than the one we have now, and not as open, but it even has a new fridge, tap, and stove.
It's not even listed, Cheri has a contact, and they mostly want to just sell the place quick, so it's only $219,000. This place here could be listed for 199,000 apparently, and we could get probably over 185000 for it. The Strata fees are more though.... the only hang up really with the place, that keeps us from snagging it and having more space so we can have everything in the place with us, is the added cost. The living costs, monthly, for the place would be about $1350. (Mortage, Strata (which includes electricity, water, etc...) and the like) That's a fiar chunk of change. And that doesn't include property tax, the phone, etc... plus we have truck expenses on top of that.
Hopefully today I'll find out I got the job (I had an interview for a job at Custom House, the currency exchange place that Kat works at, on Monday, and it was promising. She liked me and said that I had done a good interview, etc... plus I have an possible opportunity to also get some extra work in homecare as a companion)... and I'll start making some money, but that's not going to be that big a help all things considered. And it severely cuts into our trip-saving budget, and debt paying off... everything would take us longer. The September trip would definately be on shaky ground, if we had to pay for a move and this new place, plus the gas and truck repairs to make the journey.
And it means we'll only be able to take one trip upisland this summer. :(
So we have a big decision to make. We like the place, Cheri likes it, Kat likes it. And compared to anything else on the market, and the price, we'll never get this chance again. But it's a big decision, and we're not entirely sure if we should go for it. We've been praying about it, but we're still unsure either way. We put an offer in for $210,000 last night and they came back today with a counter offer of $215,000, but because they're not willing to go down too much, the realtor convinced them to sweeten the deal by adding the picture I'd liked that was in the hall. LOL It's from Hawaii (or, well, that's where they bought it, and it's a known artist). So now we'll just have to see how the financing goes, etc...
If all goes well we'll take possession of the place at the end of September.
So now it's a rush to clean up this place and get more than half the stuff out of it so we can show this place off and sell it. Eeep.
But for now, I think I'll take a nap next to my exhausted husband, and deal with it all later. :)
